Bamboo Toothbrush With Box

PREMIUM BAMBOO TOOTHBRUSH WITH BOX
Compostable body + diamond-head + soft bristles

The bamboo toothbrush is an environment-conscious alternative to commercial plastic toothbrushes. This bamboo toothbrush boasts soft bristles (gentle on the gums), a diamond-head (maneuverable and able to brush difficult to reach spots), and a fully compostable handle.

Out of all of the bamboo toothbrushes we've used on our journey to zero waste, we choose to distribute these, because these are by far the best ones we've tried, and because we are able to source these without the toothbrushes being wrapped in plastic packaging. Unlike other toothbrushes out in the market, the toothbrushes we carry don't shed bristles, don't cause mouth sores, and don't come individually wrapped in plastic.

Our mission has always been to test what's out there, and find what works and what doesn't, so we can be a one-stop resource for tools and alternatives that actually work. We only carry products we ourselves use.

This item is available in a couple of variants. One order is inclusive of one premium bamboo toothbrush enclosed in one compostable kraft paper box— no plastic packaging. Please see product and shipping information in the tabs below. (Please email us for bulk orders.)

SOURCE
Country: China

Note
We are transparent about where our products are from. Some sellers claim their toothbrushes are locally-made. Unfortunately, this is not true. Over the last three years, we have done our best to search for a company or factory that manufactures these products locally, but all we have found are other distributors who also source their stock from China. As far as we know, there are no factories producing any bamboo toothbrushes locally. If you have any leads to a local manufacturer that does, please get in touch with us as we would prefer to support and distribute products that are proudly Philippine-made.

MATERIALS
Handle: Bamboo
Bristles: Nylon-6 (Soft)

Note:
Please beware of bamboo toothbrushes advertised to have “biodegradable bristles.” Certain brands may use biobased materials in their bristles, (e.g. castor oil,) but these bristles are not compostable or biodegradable. Bamboo bristles, or other biodegradable plant-derived bristles do not yet exist. Prior to the invention of nylon in the 1930s, pig hair was used for toothbrush bristles worldwide. Today, the only fully biodegradable toothbrushes in the world use bristles made from pig, boar, or badger hair, and are reported to be hard and abrasive on the gums.

DIMENSIONS
Toothbrush:  18.7 x 1.5 x 1.7cm
Box: 19.7 x 2.5 x 1.7cm

WEIGHT
Toothbrush: 11g
Box: 4g

QUALITIES & FEATURES
DURABLE
It is as sturdy and as reusable as a regular toothbrush. It can also be sterilized in boiling water.

MOSTLY COMPOSTABLE
The body of the toothbrush is completely compostable, and can be broken down safely and by natural means.

MADE OF RENEWABLE MATERIALS
Bamboo is a sustainable, renewable, natural resource that grows in a wide range of environments. It is a fast growing grass that does not require fertilizers, pesticides, or irrigation. On top of all this, bamboo produces 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees, while sequestering carbon dioxide.

USE
Please wash or sterilize the item prior to use. Always thoroughly rinse the toothbrush with water after each brushing, and allow the toothbrush to air-dry between uses.

STORAGE
Do not store the toothbrush in a closed container, as moist environments are more conducive to the growth of microorganisms. It is also best to keep the toothbrush as far away from the toilet as possible.

REPLACEMENT
Dentists recommend replacing toothbrushes every 3–4 months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed with use. Also consider replacing your toothbrush if you have been sick, especially if the toothbrush is stored close to other toothbrushes.

BRISTLES
Please remove the nylon bristles from the toothbrush with a pair of pliers, and stuff these bristles into an ecobrick

HANDLE
The body of the toothbrush is completely compostable, and can be broken down safely and by natural means. This however does not mean that the toothbrush will easily be assimilated into soil. It may take up to 10 years for the handle to completely break down if buried whole in soil. It may take 6 months for the handle to break down in a commercial composting bin. Chopping or breaking the toothbrush into smaller pieces will also significantly speed up composting time.

Alternatively, you can reuse bamboo toothbrush handles in the garden as plant markers, like we do.

Please do not send your spent toothbrushes to a landfill. If you do not have the means to compost your toothbrush handles, you may return them to us. We will only accept toothbrushes that no longer have any bristles attached.

PACKAGING

Please expect all items to be packaged in very minimal used / recycled / secondhand paper bags or cardboard boxes. We try to minimize our carbon footprint where we can, when we can, and as much as we can, and avoid procuring new packaging materials for our products.

All single-use packaging materials, no matter how "eco-friendly," take an inordinate amount of resources (e.g. water, fuel, electricity, trees, etc.) to manufacture. This is why we prefer to solicit used paper bags and boxes via Buhay Zero Waste Preloved, an online decluttering and dumpster-diving platform that we run.Our parcels won't always look pretty, but they have a much much smaller impact on the environment than parcels that use brand new "eco-friendly" packaging materials.
