Reusable Cloth Menstrual Pad | Heavy Flow

HEAVY FLOW MENSTRUAL PAD
Reusable + machine-washable + dryer-safe

Reusable cloth pads are an alternative to landfill-polluting, ocean-polluting, high-carbon-footprint, single-use, menstrual care products.

Our menstrual cloth pads are breathable, absorbent, comfortable, and come in a black and grey minimal design. The absorbent side that comes into contact with the body is plain grey, making it easy to monitor menstrual health. The outer layer of the pad is made of waterproof material, preventing any leaks. Our pads clasp securely around the underwear's crotch panel, and are not dislodged by bodily movement.

Minimal AF, breathable, and leak-proof!

Heavy flow pads are great for use during your heaviest days— usually the first two days of the cycle. For the tail end of your period, we advise the use of our mild flow pads instead.

Our mission has always been to test what's out there, and find what works and what doesn't, so we can be a one-stop resource for tools and alternatives that actually work. We only carry products we ourselves use.

One order is inclusive of one cloth heavy flow menstrual pad. Please see product and shipping information in the tabs below.

A cloth pad or a pasador is a reusable alternative to disposable menstrual care products. Compared to the menstrual cup, the cloth pad is an easy environment-conscious menstrual care tool to switch to. The general life-span of this product is 3 to 5 years, but can and will last for much much longer with proper care.

LAYER 1
Unlike disposable pads and tampons, cloth pads don't expose your body for extended durations to any harsh/harmful/hormone-inhibiting chemicals. The grey textile that comes into contact with the skin is bamboo charcoal fiber- a breathable, highly absorbent, and moisture-regulating material that is great even for very sensitive skin.

LAYER 2
Within the cloth pad are 3 layers of microfiber for the fast absorption and containment of liquid. Our pads boast a larger capacity for liquid compared to most cloth pads available locally (with only 2 layers of microfiber).

LAYER 3
The black outermost layer of our cloth pad that comes into contact with the underwear is made of PUL (Polyurethane Laminate— a waterproof barrier that prevents any leaks.

Our cloth pads come in two variants. What's available on this page is the heavy flow variant. If you are looking for the mild-moderate flow variant, please click here instead.

OUR HEAVY FLOW PAD
The heavy-flow pad is great for use during your heaviest days. Barring any medical conditions one might have, a heavy-flow pad can last a whole day. (Of course, just because you can wear it the whole day, doesn't mean you should. But, yes, you can, if you needed to, and you won't get leaks.)

Length: 31 cm
Width: 18.5 cm

FIRST USE
Please make sure to launder the cloth pad before use.

TO WASH
Squeeze the pad under cold/tap running water after use. (To conserve water, you may also squeeze the pad in a basin after use.) Once the water runs clear, you can you throw the pad in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry, or hang it to dry until laundry day, if you aren't doing laundry anytime soon.

TO DISINFECT
If you're feeling a little extra and would like to disinfect or soak the pads, there are a number of environment-friendly substitutes to bleach that you can use. You can soak the pad in water with some white vinegar. Or soak the pad in water with some baking soda. Or soak the pad in water with some salt. Just choose 1 combination— don't mix and match.

Though our cloth pads aren't prone to odours or stains, it would benefit you to know that salt is great for removing stains, vinegar is great at neutralizing odours, and baking soda is great for both. All three are great antimicrobial cleaning agents.

Alternatively, instead of soaking the pad, you can also just chuck the pad in the washing machine with your clothes and put a scoop of baking soda (or vinegar) in your laundry load. Do not use bleach or fabric conditioner as this may ruin the absorbency of the pad.

TO DRY
The most zero waste waste way to both dry and disinfect your pads is by drying them under the sun. However, for those who do not have access to a space where they can sun-dry their pads, drying them in a dryer works too. Our reusable cloth pads are dryer safe. Just don't iron the pad, as ironing may ruin the waterproofing of the pad.

    PACKAGING

Please expect all items to be packaged in very minimal used / recycled / secondhand paper bags or cardboard boxes. We try to minimize our carbon footprint where we can, when we can, and as much as we can, and avoid procuring new packaging materials for our products.

All single-use packaging materials, no matter how "eco-friendly," take an inordinate amount of resources (e.g. water, fuel, electricity, trees, etc.) to manufacture. This is why we prefer to solicit used paper bags and boxes via Buhay Zero Waste Preloved, an online decluttering and dumpster-diving platform that we run.Our parcels won't always look pretty, but they have a much much smaller impact on the environment than parcels that use brand new "eco-friendly" packaging materials.
