Compostable Loofah Dish Sponge

DRIED LUFFA / LOOFAH / PATOLA / SPONGE GOURD
Durable + all natural + 100% compostable

Kitchen sponges are one of the most disposable household cleaning tools. They are made of plastic (polyurethane and polyethylene), are not recyclable, not compostable, and a common landfill pollutant. They also leach microplastics out into waterways whenever you do the dishes.

We don't need to pollute the planet just to get our dirty dishes clean. Switch to natural cleaning tools that won't outlive your children's children, have a smaller carbon footprint, and do the same cleaning a conventional kitchen sponge would do.

This natural sponge can also be used as a bath sponge.

BONUS:
Loofahs last a lot longer than kitchen sponges, and don't get yucky and greasy. You can also cut one loofah (lengthwise or crosswise— either works) into 2 or 3 sponges. Once spent, you just chuck the loofah into your compost bin, or bury it in soil.

One order is inclusive of 1 compostable loofah without any plastic packaging.

PACKAGING
Please expect all items to be packaged in very minimal used / recycled / secondhand paper bags or cardboard boxes. We try to minimize our carbon footprint where we can, when we can, and as much as we can, and refuse to procure new packaging materials for our products. Rule #1 of Zero Waste is REFUSE. All single-use packaging materials, no matter how compostable, take an inordinate amount of resources (e.g. water, fuel, electricity, trees, etc.) to manufacture. This is why we prefer to solicit used paper bags and boxes via Buhay Zero Waste Preloved, an online decluttering and dumpster-diving platform that we run. Our parcels don't always look pretty, but they have a much much smaller impact on the environment than most product packaging out there claiming to be "eco-friendly."
